Applications of acupuncture

This capability of acupuncture is used for the treatment of allergic affections (rhinitis, allergic asthma, dermatitis etc), rheumatic diseases (spondyloarthropathia, nape aches, chest aches, lumbago etc.)

Acupuncture causes a change in the levels of endogenous opium substances, which are mostly produced in the hypothalamic groove, the most important of them being endorphine-B.

Endorphine-B calms and relaxes the patient while it also has great analgesic action capable of replacing analgesic, muscle relaxants and tranquillizer medicines.

It is evident then, that acupuncture is applied in migraines, neurophytical disorders, insomnia, spastic colitis, gastritis and treatments of detoxification from harmful substances (smoking, alcoholism, bulimia, obesity etc).

Acupuncture is superior to courses of treatment used by classical Medicine, due to the fact that it activates the internal defence mechanisms of the organism without causing any harm or side effects.

Acupuncture as a method can be used in even more specialised cases.

The doctor keeps a detailed medical record and after having examined the patient's laboratorial control he is able to decide about the points where acupuncture is to be applied, the number of meetings with the patient and the duration of the whole treatment.

In 1979 the Worldwide Health Organisation (WHO) having conducted a series of studies, published and ratified the usefulness of acupuncture in classical Medicine accompanied by a list of diseases treated with acupuncture with very satisfactory results.

Furthermore, according to the circular of the Department of Health and Human Services No 574/ 1191/80, acupuncture in Greece is now acknowledged as a medical action and must be exclusively applied by specialised and appropriately trained doctors.
